Face masks don’t always have to be store bought. Price tags shouldn’t stop you from giving your skin all the love you can give. You can easily make very effective face masks at home and the ingredients can be found in the kitchen or easily purchased and I’m here to show you how.
My go to mask and all time faithful is the oatmeal and honey mask.
Oatmeal and honey mask
A clean bowl, table spoon, oatmeal (Quaker oats), honey, water, grinder/blender. This quantity should be enough for 2 uses.
- Get the oatmeal and pour about 3-5 teaspoons into a dry and clean blender or grinder.
- Blend/ grind till fine.
- Pour this into a clean bowl.
- Add water and mix till a paste of thick consistency is gotten.
- Measure 1 teaspoon of honey and add to the mixture.
- Mix till evenly distributed.
- Add another spoonful of honey, mix till the consistency is like pancake batter.
Also, I’ve heard about adding lemon juice to the mix to fight acne and spots, but I’ve never tried it before.
- Wash the face and dry with your towel.
- Use a spoon to scoop some of the mask out (this is to prevent the introduction of any contaminants).
- Apply evenly to the face. Ensure you cover all the surfaces and extend to the neck.
- Allow to dry and use warm water to rinse off.
- You can then apply your night time routine creams or daytime routine creams and allow your skin to breathe.
- Oatmeal has skin-soothing properties and it is hypoallergenic.
- Oatmeal contains 18 different amino acids, which are essential to healthy skin.
- While oatmeal alone does not moisturize your skin, it is a beneficial component in a moisturizing face mask.

These are the things I wish I knew before making my mask;
- It will get messy, so put on an old tee and put your hair back.
- Avoid getting it into your hair; it will be hard to get the oats out.
- Grinding the oats to a fine powder makes application easier and smoother.
- Store the left over in a fridge till next use, except you want it to go moldy. You can add a little water when you want to use it.
